The marriage of wood & glass: Doors
I had wanted for some time to try my hand at building a door, but didn’t want my first door to be a main entry door where any slight warp or flaw would be an endless irritant to the builder. I had also for some time wanted to replace my basement shelves, where I stored wine in cardboard cases, with something nicer. So I decided to build a wine cellar in the corner of the basement from the wealth of scrapes from other projects and give it a nice door. So my work space at the lake is now graced with a very nice oak door with a stained glass window of the Abino light. With the wine cellar success, a few years later I decided I was ready to replace the original front door to the cottage with a new oak door with an insulated window and all new trim. No stained glass as we wanted to see through the door and the porch windows to the lake.

The wine cellar door with interior lights off.

The cellar has room for about 10 cases as well as space for staging beer for the beer frig which sits just outside.

Door to Porch. It was quite an effort to build the door to fit the old frame, preserve the old hardware and make it all very weather tight.

Replaced front door from porch to living/dining room. Pam's stain and finish work on the door and trim really shows off in this pic.
