Beach:Raise the Roof 1995
Pam had been concerned that she wouldn’t like what can be the very austere winters at the lake. Happily after the sabbatical year she was in love with winter on the frozen lake but we both wanted better ways to entertain overnight guests. We decided to tear off the roof of the original cottage and build a full second floor. This bought us two lakefront bedrooms, a study and a full bath along with a lot of work. We brought in a new contractor, Roger Grant, who did the tear-off, framing, roofing and enclosing leaving us to finish everything inside and out. This process also disrupted much of the first floor ceiling and necessitated redoing all the remaining asbestos siding. So we decided to replace all the remaining old single pane windows as well. This process took a couple years including a redo of the family room. With the new bedroom space we took out the little bedroom in the lower level of the back addition and made the whole space family room. We also gave the half bath up and converted that space into closet and built-in dressers in what would become the bunk room for the boys and guests
